A Deixis Analysis of Jung Kook’s Song Lyrics in “Golden” Album

Abstrak

Pragmatics is the study of how words or sentences change meaning when context changes, one pragmatic field of study that deals with interpreting the meaning of a context or utterance from speakers to listeners is called deixis. deictic expression which is often referred to as “indexical” by the experts can indicate a relationship between time, space, and people who are involved the present study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, with the primary data source being the lyrics of the song. The research method used to characterize natural phenomena and the relationships between one phenomenon and another is called descriptive qualitative research. Since the research's data consists of words or utterances, this study employs a content analysis research methodology. Person deixis is the most widely used with 67 deictic words or 52%, such as first, second, and third person dominate the deixis in the whole album. Next, the second and third places show place deixis with 30 deictic words and time deixis with 31 deictic words have the same number of rounding 24%. In Jungkook's Golden album, deixis related to people, places, and times are mentioned and utilized. The reason why the person deixis is the most dominant on this album is because the songwriter shares a lot of his emotions with the listener. This research also shows that deixis greatly affects the meaning of a sentence whose reference is not fixed
